Well, we had our first tornado watch of the 2025 season this week. Fortunately, it produced mostly heavy rain and some hail, but that didn’t keep my friend Kyle, the storm chaser from doing his thing. While the rest of us were sleeping through or hunkering down, he was driving straight into the storm. He’s like a first responder for the weather. While the rest of us are running away, he is running into danger. Until I met him, I never knew how much the forecasters on TV depend on these brave souls for their information. They place themselves in the middle of the storm so they can warn us of approaching danger.
Oh yea, did I mention that Kyle is also a case manager at Faith Mission. Every day, he engages with men who need help and direction. He places himself right in the middle of their storm and warns them of the imminent danger of staying where they are in life. He offers them solutions through wise counsel and resources. He walks with them through the process and assures them of his commitment to their success. Often, he sacrifices his own comfort so they can find a glimmer of hope. He even goes out on the streets every week to find them where they happen to be and deliver some good news.
It would be impossible to know how many people received the information they needed to take shelter or warn someone else of an approaching storm because of Kyle’s commitment. And someday, eternity will reveal just how many lives he touched because of his willingness to love and serve in the middle of their storm.
He’s a hero in my book.
I hope you will pray for all our team of “storm chasers” as they go where few dare to go to bring the “good news” of Jesus Christ and share His love with our homeless and addicted neighbors.
