And Moses’ hands were heavy. So, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other. So, his hands were steady until the sun set. 13 And Joshua [a]defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

You can probably recount the story behind this passage.  God’s vision to Moses was for Israel to defeat the Amalekites.  To represent God’s presence in the battle, Moses would hold up his staff, and as long as he did so, Israel prevailed.  But when his arms grew tired and the staff came down, Amalek prevailed.

So, Aaron and Hur came to Moses’ side to hold up his arms.  And you know the rest of the story.  Israel defeated Amelek.

There are really two lessons in the passage.  One is, we need God’s presence to accomplish God’s vision.  The second is, sometimes God uses others in our lives to accomplish His vision.

At WF faith Mission, God uses a team of faithful, dedicated men and women to accomplish His vision.  Namely, “To provide Christ-centered programs and services that lead the homeless and addicted toward self-sufficiency.”  These talented and dedicated people come along side me and each other to help those God sends to us.  Sometimes it seems like a battle.  There are forces in our world that are waging war on people’s lives.  We can’t solve all the problems in the world, but we can listen to their story and provide help.

It is sometimes exhausting work, but you won’t hear them complain.  They are called to enter the battle every day and stand in the gap for those who can’t do it alone.

I admire these men and women and pray for their strength to be sustained and for their teamwork to grow.  Afterall, we can’t do it alone.  Sometimes, we need someone to hold up our arms.
