An often-overlooked part of the Biblical account surrounding the birth of Jesus is the story of a man and woman named Zachariah and Elizabeth.  The angel Gabriel appeared to aged Zachariah and told him that he and Elizabeth, who was barren, would have a son and they would name him John.  Not only would John be born to them in their elderly years, but he would, “make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

In a moment of doubt, Zachariah questioned the possibility of this happening and was struck mute.  He didn’t speak again until the promised son was named John.

Wow!  Can you imagine having this kind of “Good News’ and not being able to tell anyone?  Of course, there was always signing and writing, but that’s not the same as shouting it out.

Well, the truth is, we have some “Good News” of our own to share and we still have our voice.  In fact, it is the best news of all.

For unto us, a child is born, to us a son is given.  He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

He is Jesus.  He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified, and buried for our sins and rose again on the third day that we might have life.  He ascended into Heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf.

Is that “Good News” or what?

For some of our guests at the shelters, it is good news that we have a bed and a meal for them.  And we are glad to give it to them.  But we don’t stop there.  We offer the best news of all.  We share the Gospel because having a relationship with the savior of the world is better than anything this world has to offer.
