How does God get your attention?  I’m not talking about those times when you are obviously headed down the wrong path and He has to put on the brakes.  I’m talking about on a daily basis.  How does He remind you that He is still there as faithful and consistent as ever.

For me, it is Spring.  When I look out at my backyard and see everything turning green, the birds building their nests and can smell the freshness in the air, it gets my attention.  It’s as if God is saying, “Can you hear Me now?”

I know in my mind that God is always speaking and is always pursuing us.  I’m just glad He is willing to turn it up a notch for hard heads like mine.

I hear men and women at the shelters say, sometimes with amazement, that they had to come to a homeless shelter to meet God.  It’s as if that was the last place they expected to find Him.  And I get it.  When a person is at the end of their road, overwhelmed with their circumstances and ready to give up hope, God can seem pretty far away.  And a shelter doesn’t seem like a divine appointment.

But the truth is, God always meets us in the same place every time … where we look for Him.  He never stops chasing after us.  And at our two shelters, we feel privileged to share that never-ending love with anyone that enters our doors.

You may not know that some of the men and women in our New Beginnings Recovery Program are court ordered here.  That means they can complete the program and hope that they judge is satisfied they have changed and give them a reduced sentence, or they can go to prison.  We have seen tremendous success with this program.

But the thing that is the most satisfying is hearing them say things like, “I just came here to get out of prison.  I never expected to be loved and accepted.  I never thought God had a plan for me.”

God breaks through some pretty tough shells and when He does, some amazing things are revealed.

I’m glad God never stops speaking.  His patience with us is amazing.  How is He trying to get your attention right now?
