You may have heard that we are growing. Usually, under normal circumstances, that is good news. Every business owner loves to hear those words. Every pastor would love to start their staff meeting with that phrase.
But for us, growth means there are more people to serve. And don’t get me wrong, that is what we are here for and that is what we live to do … serve people. Especially those who can’t help themselves.
Recently, we have determined that in order to continue our ministry to the homeless and addicted, we will need more and better space. Our men’s shelter, Faith Mission, is almost 40 years old and needs some restoration.
And our women’s and children’s shelter, Faith Refuge, is out of space in the area we call the “Family Wing.” This hall serves moms with children every night and we sometimes have to turn some away or put them on a waiting list.
So, we are building a new wing with more rooms just for them. There will be a separate laundry area, day room and safe playground area. We will even have two rooms dedicated to moms with boys over the age of 12. Since we are a women’s only facility, this has been a serious gap in our services in the past.
I have to say that I wish we didn’t need to grow in this way, but on the other hand, I am so glad God has provided the resources for us to prepare ourselves better for the challenge ahead. This community has been very generous to support WFFM and we are so thankful for that. We will need that support to continue in the days ahead as we fund this vital project.
If you want to learn more about this project or any other services we provide, please call me, Steve Sparks at 940-723-5663 or visit our website at faithmissionwf.org.
Together, we will always be here for our homeless and addicted neighbors.
