Last weekend, my wife and I were invited to see the new home of Gary and Tracy (not their real names.). This is noteworthy, because Gary and Tracy both graduated from the New Beginnings Addiction Recovery Program at WF Faith Mission. Before Gary came into the program, he was found by a good Samaritan, sitting in his yard contemplating suicide. Tracy had all but given up on having any future and didn’t think anyone cared.
But God. Don’t you love stories that get interrupted that way? God had a future planned for them that was far beyond anything they could imagine.
After the program and a period of transitioning, they met and began to talk. Now, we don’t run a dating service at our shelters because it is not always good news when two former addicts start seeing one another. But it became apparent that God had something special for these two.
Fast forward to last weekend. When Pam and I arrived at their home, we were greeted by not only Gary and Tracy, but Tracy’s mom, her sister, their daughter and son-in law and their three kids. There were 4 generations there that day.
Now what do you think the chances are that this family would have been all together that day if Gary and Tracy hadn’t decided to get help and turn their lives over to Jesus? There were hugs and great big smiles. Without anyone having to say it, we all knew why we were there that Saturday.
It was to give God the glory for the great things he has done in this family.
I know that God doesn’t need us to do miracles in a person’s life, but I am thankful every day that he chooses to use Faith Mission and Faith Refuge to help men, women and children find joy and purpose in their lives.
