“Can we just leave them with you?” asked the Career Academy students of their director, LaRae Collins. The ladies were referring to the hurts they each wrote down at the beginning of the semester and then sealed in an envelope. Originally, the students planned to burn their hurts when they graduated the academy, but the day came, and they were content to leave them with their teacher.
The Career Academy is a job readiness program for women. LaRae became the academy’s director in the fall of 2017, and is forever changed by the experience. “They taught me more than I could ever teach them in a lifetime. I learned strength, perseverance, forgiveness, and faith from these ladies. It was a humbling experience. I am amazed by these women,” said LaRae.
Nine ladies graduated this past November. Six of them are now employed, and the other three are working towards employment. All of the ladies moved out of Faith Refuge. The Career Academy is an excellent place for women to gain a new start.
When the academy students asked, “Can we just leave them with you?” LaRae realized the symbolism of their act. They were leaving their hurts and moving on to the next phase in life. This Christmas season and always, the staff at all three of our locations pray that our clients and programmers will leave their hurts with Christ so they might write new chapters of hope and joy. THANK YOU for giving. By doing so, you provide an opportunity for hurting people to lay their burdens at the feet of Jesus.
